History of Mask:

According to Ms. Colussy, mask making has roots from the theater with ancient Greece. . Mask again reappear in medieval folk festivals, court or aristocratic parties with political subtext in the Renaissance (think Shakespeare: A Mid Summer’s Nights Dream and Romeo and Juliet) as well as in the Jacobean, Tudor, Henry the 8th and Elizabethan court. The popularity of mask culminated to its zenith in the reign of Louis the 14th court at Versailles. Later we see masks once again at the turn of the 19th century in costume balls held by the wealthy NY elite society of the Astor’s and of course Henry Flagler at his estate in Palm Beach.
